================================================================================
                               General Strategies
================================================================================

* The first half of the game is relatively straightforward and intended for
  causal play. Worlds 5 and 6 begin to get difficult, and Worlds 7 and 8 are
  designed for advanced players, though most people should be able to complete
  every level with enough practice. In SMU:Deluxe, some of the "Nintendo Hard"
  difficulty of the original hack has been reduced slightly in favor of
  increasing fun factor.

* Practice bouncing off enemies and moving accurately in mid-air, as this skill
  will be required later in the game.

* The stop watch power-up stops the game clock which is useful for the
  "athletic" levels, but only if you don't waste time collecting it!

                              === Mario Coins ===

* Each level has a Mario coin, except castles, which have no Mario coins. Most
  Mario coins are hidden and/or will require a small challenge to collect.
  Collecting Mario coins activates hidden power up blocks, and also will allow
  you to learn new information at the end of each world.

* Collect all Mario coins to make later levels easier. After World 4, power-ups
  are uncommon, and some levels have no regular power ups, only hidden
  power-ups. If you do not collect Mario coins, these hidden power-ups will
  not be available.

* When you enter a castle, your Mario coin count is checked. If it is above a
  certain amount, hidden power-ups are enabled for the castle and the following
  4 levels. The end world "secret message" will also be displayed when enough
  Mario coins have been collected.

* Required number of Mario coins for each castle to activate hidden power ups
  and secrets:

                          World 1  -  02 / 04  -  50%
                          World 2  -  05 / 08  -  63%
                          World 3  -  08 / 12  -  66%
                          World 4  -  11 / 16  -  68%
                          World 5  -  15 / 20  -  75%
                          World 6  -  21 / 24  -  87%
                          World 7  -  28 / 28  -  100%
                          World 8  -  32 / 32  -  100%

================================================================================
                             Second Quest/Hard Mode
================================================================================

* After you beat the game, your save game will be updated back to World 1-1 with
  a star next to the world number. This indicates you have beaten the game and
  are now on the Second Quest aka "Hard Mode".

* In the Second Quest, Goombas are replaced with Buzzy Beetles, and most enemies
  move more quickly. Hidden power-ups are no longer available.

* Some of the end world secret messages are different in the second quest.

* The hidden World Zero is accessible during the second quest.

================================================================================
                              Accessing World Zero
================================================================================

* To visit World Zero, first beat the game, then continue your game with "hard
  mode" enabled. Make your way a Warp Zone in World 1-2, 3-1, or 5-2 to find
  World Zero.

================================================================================
                                  Cheats Mode
================================================================================

* You can enable "cheats mode" by entering the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down,
  Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A) while the main title screen scrolls from left
  to right.

* The use of the Konami code and title screen scrolling are both references to
  the game "Contra"

                              === Level select ===

* After enabling cheats mode and while the title screen still says "PRESS
  START", press B to select a world , and press the Select button to select an
  area 1 through 5 within the world. Start a new game with an "EMPTY" slot and
  you will begin your game at the level selected.

                     === Give power-ups and Mario Coins===

* After enabling cheats mode, you can give yourself a fire flower and Mario
  coins during game play. Press start to pause the game, then hold UP+B and
  then press Select to give a fire flower. Hold UP+A then press Select to give a
  Mario Coin. The Mario coin total will be updated on screen the next time you
  collect a coin.

================================================================================
                                Speedrunner Mode
================================================================================

* Enable cheats mode (see above), then while the title screen still says "PRESS
  START", hold A and then press Start. You will start a new game from World 1-1
  that will not be saved. You cumulative time will be displayed at the end of
  each castle.

* Beginning in version 2.2, once you begin a game in Speedrunner Mode, you do not
  have to enable cheats mode again after resetting the game, simply hold A and
  press Start while the screen says "PRESS START"

* If you start a Speedrunner mode game immediately after beating the game, you
  will begin in "Hard Mode"/"Second Quest"

* Beginning in version 2.3, you can also start a Speedrunner game in hard mode
  if you have a saved game that is in hard mode. Load the hard mode save game
  and then reset the NES. Then start a Speedrunner mode game. As long as you
  do not load the save game menu, you can reset the NES as many times as you
  wish. If you do load the menu, simply load the hard mode game again.

* A note for hardcore speed runners: The internal game timer is based around
  60 frames per second, but the NES actually runs slightly faster than 60 fps.
  Because of this, the internal game timer will be slightly off from real-time,
  gaining about 1 second for every 10 minutes of game play.

================================================================================
                               End of Game Messages
================================================================================

* The end of game message is different depending on how many attempts and Mario
  coins you collect. Collect all 32 Mario coins while making fewer than 100
  attempts for the "true ending" message. Can you beat the game in under 10
  attempts?!

================================================================================
                       About Screen / Version Information
================================================================================

* Press and hold A on the first intro screen where it say "Frantik Presents" to
  see information about the ROM including version number and release date.
  Continue to hold A until you are done reading

* Super Mario Unlimited: Deluxe was released on November 21, 2020, the 30th
  anniversary of Super Mario World and the Super Nintendo

================================================================================
                                    World 8
================================================================================

                        World 8 .. you're almost there!

                                == World 8-4 ==

* To escape the endless loop, jump into the pit in the room with two question
  blocks. You will fall through to the end of the level. This solution was
  hinted at with two clues: "BOWSER'S CASTLE IS HIDDEN DEEP UNDERGROUND" and
  "THE ROOM WITH TWO QUESTIONS HOLDS THE ANSWER"

* The first room in this level is inspired by the castle entrances in Zelda II

* The second and third rooms are inspired by rooms in the final SMB3 castle

* There is a hidden power-up in this level

                                == World 8-5 ==

* There are two routes through this level. To access the alternate route, you
  must use the hidden power up to climb to the top part of the second room.

* You will be given a fire flower before you fight Bowser, so it doesn't matter
  what power-up state you are in when you reach him.

================================================================================
